937- the play
Our production imagines that the artifacts that are left behind by these people- photographs, clothing, luggage- the items we might see when visiting a Holocaust memorial museum- can themselves tell a story.
937 follows one family-father, mother and child- who leave Hamburg for Cuba full of hope. Performers animate personal items including shoes, coats and dresses in such a way that the lives of their original owners become tangible. Entirely without text, 937 attempts to tell a story for which there are no adequate words. It is an emotionally immediate experience rich in detail that transports us back in time to experience a history we must never forget.
