2015 started with a bang! Karen is back from South America where she performed in jazz clubs in Rio de Janiero and Buenos Aires. 'These cities are filled with clubs where people go to listen to music from around the world. I sought out the Latin music and dance, the Sambas, Bossas, Chachas, Tangos, and was thrilled by the big bands of drummers, but they wanted to hear what I had to offer too. Maybe I will skip some of winter again next year!'
Karen had a busy 2014. Highlights included the Music Nova Scotia industry nomination of her album "Karen Robinson With" as a contender for the Jazz Album of the Year, the great show at the TD Halifax Jazz Festival in July, and the string of shows with her trio with Danny Parker and Paul Simons. They finished their winter/spring run at Stayners' Wharf in May, and continued in such venues as Paul's Hall, the Company House and the Rose and Kettle Concert Series. The Woodlawn Public Library, Dartmouth, hosted the trio as part of the Jazz East's Jazz Up Your Spring concert series, and the Press Gang Restaurant and Oyster Bar hosted Karen with Paul Simons on piano for their Art of the Duo series in August. Also a treat was sitting in a few times for Mike Cowie at the Press Gang with Gerry Carruthers on piano and Larry Bjornson on bass.
