LIONESS

After premiering to a sold out audience at the 2013 Solo-icious Festival in Halifax, Nova Scotia, LIONESS is back by popular demand, newly revamped and extended, and making its World Premiere at the Marigold Cultural Centre on January 15th, 2016.

Created and performed by Truro’s own, Wayne Burns, LIONESS follows the parent/teacher meeting between Maria, a young inner city mother, and Mrs. Green, a private school teacher, regarding the recent behaviour and academic progress of Maria’s 8-year-old son, George. This hilariously candid and heart-warming piece speaks to themes of motherhood, single parenting, class privilege, the special bond between mothers and their children and the pressures that come with being the sole provider for an intergenerational household.

Run time: 60 minutes.
