The hottest place in Charlottetown on June 19 will be The Guild, as one of Canada’s top stand-up comedians, Gilson Lubin brings his hilarious Some Like it Hot show to Prince Edward Islanders for one night only.
Lubin was born in the Caribbean Island nation of Saint Lucia and raised in Toronto, where he began performing stand-up comedy to rave reviews, which led to prime gigs opening for some of the best in the business including comedy superstar Dave Chappelle and an on-air position on MTV Canada.
Comedy fans will recognize Gilson’s laid-back comedy style from his many television performances ranging from George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight to HBO’s Russell Simmons Def Comedy Jam to Comedy Central’s Premium Blend and his own Comedy Now special on CTV and the Comedy Network plus an appearance the world-famous Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal. He was even the subject of a special Gilson-only presentation of CBC Radio’s popular program Laugh Out Loud.
With golden material covering everything from pop culture to heavier social issues and his upbringing as a Saint Lucian in Canada, Gilson Lubin is quickly rising to the top of the Canadian comedy industry. This one-night-only performance at a ticket price of only $15 is an opportunity for comedy fans from one island to get to know and love this comedian from another, very different island.
Some Like it Hot in Charlottetown is presented by Bay of Funny Comedy and will be hosted by the Bay of Funny’s own Lloyd Ravn from New Brunswick, with a feature performance from one of PEI’s best stand-up comedians, to be announced shortly.
“When Gilson asked me about opportunities to perform in the Maritimes, I immediately thought of The Guild,” says Ravn, whose Bay of Funny company is producing live comedy shows around the Maritimes. He continues, “When I was living in Toronto, I organized a comedy fundraiser and Gilson appeared on that show, and what struck me, in addition to his crowd-winning style, was just how super nice he was. I knew Maritimers, and Islanders in particular, would love him.”
